First-Time Patients

Making the decision to seek treatment for a substance abuse disorder isn’t easy.  We understand this and know that it takes a great deal of patience, bravery and strength to get where you are today. If this is your first experience in recovery, you’ll likely have many questions. Patients often wonder what what to expect from the process and what the outcome will be. At Valiant, we understand the apprehension that many experience when taking their first steps toward long-term sobriety. Our experienced team will be there to guide you throughout the process and the relaxing, home-like environment of our facility outside of Denver will help to ease feelings of stress or anxiety as you embark on this new phase in your life.

For most patients, detox is the first step toward lasting recovery. When traces of drugs or alcohol remain in the body, it becomes difficult to resist cravings and focus on healing. A thorough, medically-supervised detox eliminates these obstacles to help patients begin their treatment experience with a sound mind and unwavering determination. To provide each individual with the greatest chance at recovery, we blend high-level, interventional detox with the compassion and support of a dedicated team. Clients also receive comprehensive medical and psychiatric assessments to evaluate their needs and substance use history so we may develop personalized treatment plans and recommend the appropriate level of care. With a medical staff available 24/7, we professionally manage all withdrawal symptoms and provide one-on-one attention to ensure that clients are safe and comfortable throughout the process. Although detox can be difficult, patients will be supported every step of the way. It’s our goal to make the experience as positive as possible and help clients feel a sense of accomplishment as they prepare to transition into short or long-term treatment.

Dual Diagnosis and Co-Occurring Disorders

A dual diagnosis means that a patient is struggling with addiction and a co-occurring mental health disorder such as anxiety, depression or schizophrenia. Often, those with psychiatric issues use substances in an attempt to self-medicate or mask the symptoms they’re experiencing. Other times, prolonged substance use may contribute to or exacerbate an existing mental health disorder. These disorders are common, affecting the majority of those who seek treatment for drug or alcohol use.

Dual diagnosis patients present unique challenges that often require a highly personalized, intricate approach that addresses both their substance use and mental health needs. At Valiant, we have the expertise and knowledge to help patients with co-occurring disorders achieve long-lasting recovery and learn new, healthy ways to manage their psychiatric symptoms. Our experienced clinical team comprises a diverse group of counselors, medical staff, addiction technicians, nurse practitioners and other specialists who are intimately familiar with addressing a wide variety of emotional, behavioral and mental health disorders. To ensure a successful treatment experience, we employ an integrative approach that may include holistic modalities, a combination of psychotherapies and medication management. We also provide dual diagnosis patients with active mental health monitoring and advanced case management to help them navigate the complex feelings that often occur during detox.

Post-Relapse Care

Substance abuse disorders are chronic by definition and relapse is an ongoing concern for those overcoming addiction. A relapse is not a sign of failure or defeat, but it does introduce new obstacles and extend the amount of time it will take for you to recover. A relapse also invites additional health concerns and increases the risk of an overdose. To avoid the complications associated with a relapse, we strive to provide patients with a successful first-time detox to ensure that your first experience is also your last. The high level of care we provide introduces patients to new strategies, healthy coping mechanisms and a strong support system to help keep patients on the path to long-term recovery as they transition into higher levels of care.

Ideally, patients will only go through detox once, but we understand that the process isn’t always linear and sometimes it may take a great deal of time to heal from long-term drug or alcohol use. A relapse often indicates that a return to treatment is necessary to reassess your recovery strategy and think carefully about your goals, intentions and desires. At Valiant, we work closely with patients who have relapsed to determine where in their recovery they are struggling. We then develop a relapse-support program designed specifically for them, which may include returning to a medically-supervised detox, a continuation of therapy or both. We’ve found that an integrated approach is the best solution, addressing any potential issues or needs that may have been overlooked in the past. Regardless of the severity of your relapse, our team can help get you back on the path of long-term recovery and help you find a treatment program that resonates with you.
